Minecraft: Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March


Way back in 2020 the developers announced a major change to Minecraft: Java Edition, since players will soon be required to switch from the Mojang account to a Microsoft account to keep playing. This is “soon” in a relative sense, considering that we’re not yet at the deadline, but the developers have confirmed the date and sent out the final announcement for account migration.



You won’t be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition if you have a Mojang account. To “improved security, player safety and security” the developers would like everyone to switch to Microsoft accounts. They are offering free Minecraft caps to encourage players to do so.



You can find all the information about how to move your account here. Java Edition will continue to be supported as normal following the change and will continue to be a separate entity to Bedrock. This is a purely unification of the accounts systems.
